College Goal Sunday 2010
Hello all!
It is a little early, but before you know it, we will be at that time of year again!!!
Last year we were able to assist 260 students with the FA process. We received some excellent reviews, and we are excited to host the event in 2010.
The CGS Planning Committee is well underway.
The 2010 CGS Rhode Island will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2010. This year, the committee is planning to add two new locations, to total six locations, including: CCRI Newport, CCRI Providence, CCRI Lincoln, Woonsocket HS, West Warwick HS, and Central Falls High School.
This is Rhode Island’s third College Goal Sunday. We are excited to add two locations this year to provide assistance to the population of students and families that most need it.
CGS is designed to meet a specific need. Research shows that families often cite high cost as the main barrier to college attendance, even though tens of millions of dollars in various forms of financial aid are available. Too many families — particularly those of color, low income and no tradition of pursuing an education beyond high school — are not familiar with the process of applying for those funds available to them. These students and their families need two things: First, they need to receive more information through a variety of channels about the availability of financial aid; second, they need expert assistance in filling out the paperwork required to qualify for that aid.
CGS RI Planning Committee is seeking volunteers to assist at the event, at each of the six sites, on January 31, 2010. Please volunteer for this important event!!!! You may complete the volunteer form on-line at http://www.collegegoalri.org/volunteerForm.cfm.
Please note that a training session will be provided for all volunteers. More information will follow in November.
